Antibes Juan-les-Pins is three towns in one. Old Antibes, enclosed by its ramparts, with the Provençal market on Cours Masséna and the Château Grimaldi turned Picasso museum — the painter worked there in the autumn of 1946 and left his work behind. Port Vauban, one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean, backed by the Fort Carré. And Juan-les-Pins, a seaside resort born in the 1920s.
Between the two shores, Cap d’Antibes is a wooded peninsula walked on the Tirepoil path, cut into the rock at water level. The Thuret botanical garden, created in the nineteenth century to acclimatise exotic species, sits at the top of the cape: a good share of the Riviera’s palm trees passed through it.

Inside the ramparts: the covered market on Cours Masséna, the Picasso museum and the lanes down to La Gravette beach.
The wooded residential peninsula, between La Garoupe beach, the lighthouse, the Thuret garden and the coastal path.
The seaside resort, its pine grove and its sandy beach. The liveliest part of the commune after dark.

The marina and its quay for the largest yachts, at the foot of the Fort Carré. The town’s most striking waterfront.
The commune’s two sandy beaches, one on each side of the cape, linked by the climb to the lighthouse.
April - June
The coastal path and the Thuret garden are at their best. Beaches are easy to reach and the town has its terraces back.
July - August
The peak: the Juan-les-Pins jazz festival in July, full beaches and a dense old town in the evening. Parking becomes the main subject of the day.
September - October
The ideal shoulder season: warm sea, the market unchanged, the Tirepoil path deserted. The yachts gradually leave Port Vauban.
November - March
The town stays alive out of season, with a daily market and an inhabited old quarter. Juan-les-Pins, by contrast, goes to sleep.
July
The festival has been held in the Gould pine grove, facing the sea, since 1960. It is the oldest fixture in the commune.
Spring
The botanical garden is open on weekdays. Mediterranean species flower mainly between March and May.
Autumn
The sea-level circuit of the cape takes two hours on foot. Out of season it is nearly empty and the swell does the rest.
The coastal path closes in rough weather: it runs along the rock at water level and access is barred when the swell picks up.
The Cours Masséna market is covered and runs in the mornings; its rhythm changes out of season, which catches out midweek winter visitors.
Antibes and Juan-les-Pins do not keep the same calendar: the old town works all year, the resort from April to October.
